Jessica Joy

Jess is as much an enthusiast of landscape and environmental imagery as she is an accomplished portraitist. She generally finds her place as a documentarian of moments where these two photographic senses overlap. She demonstrates a strong sensitivity to the fleetingness and importance attached to the events her clients entrust her with; all while striving to lace the work with her unique wit, playfulness and sense of place.

Jess credits class work, self-guided study, and an apprenticeship with established photographer Carrie Richards for honing her imaging techniques and developing her keen eye for meaningful detail. Inspired by the street photography of both Henri Cartier-Bresson and Vivian Maier, she most enjoys capturing the intimacy that unfolds during candid moments in which subjects are authentically interacting with one another and/or their natural environment.

Jess lives in Oakland, California with her husband Patrick and an enormous dog named Dmitri.
